There are certain things you can count on from your local convenience store. Basics like bread and milk, snacks like chips and chocolate bars, lottery tickets, or maybe beer. But the West End Kwik-Way in Liverpool, Nova Scotia is serving up something extra special.
Last summer they started making ice cream sandwiches from the Scotsburn and Farmers ice cream they had been scooping into cones. They experimented with delicious flavours like Sea Salt Caramel, Coffee, Moon Mist, French Vanilla, & Dinosaur Bones. It was a hit.
Side note about Moon Mist: if you’re from the Maritimes, we don’t need to tell you a thing. But if you’re not from here, you might not know about this iconic ice cream flavour. It’s an eye-catching, mouth-watering, Instagram-worthy combination of three flavours: banana, grape, and bubblegum. It’s popular as much for nostalgia as for looks or taste.
So when you turn such a popular ice cream choice into a new treat like an ice cream sandwich you know you’ve got a winner.
In March, they expanded to ice cream cakes to great fanfare and demand. They chose some classic, delicious flavour combos to start:
- Strawberry & French Vanilla
- Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Ganache
- PB & Chocolate Ganache top with Reese’s Pieces
- Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch & Chocolate
This summer they innovated again, bringing out ice cream cupcakes, which are flying out of the freezer. What is an ice cream cupcake you might ask? Think of it as a mini ice cream cake that you don’t have to share with anyone. One of the first tasty cupcakes was Peanut Butter Mudslide cupcake with a Reese Peanut Butter Ganache filling, which sounds amazing, if you ask us.
Now, they’ve making them in so many yummy flavour combinations that you could go back every week this summer and never get bored. But you’ll have to move fast – these babies don’t stay in stock for long!
