What you need to know about the 2024 George Street Festival
After COVID-19 wrecked havoc on the 2020 festival it was nice to see the summer staple come back in 2021. There were some changes though: there were only general admission tickets – no event pass, and ticket sales were only done online. Friday and Saturday, gates opened at 5pm with showtime at 6pm. Sunday – Wednesday, gates opened at 6pm and shows started at 7pm.
What is the George Street Festival?
For the week leading up to the Royal St. John’s Regatta, George Street is gated off with an outdoor concert scheduled each night. Concert goers can usually expect a few big names in the Canadian music – Blue Rodeo, Our Lady Peace, Great Big Sea, April Wine, and Barenaked Ladies have all made appearances in the past. Each night tends to have a theme with similar acts grouped together. You can always count on their being at least one night of local traditional Newfoundland music.
One of the best things about the George Street Festival is that your concert ticket gets you access to all of the bars on the street. Goodbye cover charge! The next best thing – you can walk down the street with your drink. Feel like a white Russian from Lottie’s but want to listen to the band at O’Reilly’s? Not a problem. As long as your drink is in a plastic cup you’re free to wander. And if the concerts aren’t your jam but you still want to take part, you can show up after 11pm and pay a single $15 cover to get access to 15 bars.

How to Buy Tickets for the George Street Festival
Tickets on Sale: Monday, May 13, 2024
If you want to make sure that you don’t miss out on your favourite band, you’ll want to pick up your George Street Festival tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased online for 2024 and you will need to select in advance, which gate you would like to use to enter:
- Gate 1 – Adelaide St./Kelly’s Pub
- Gate 2 – Water St. Yellowbelly Corner
- Gate 3 – Duckworth St./Trinity Pub
Single night tickets also include the post-concert (after 11pm) street party.
And keep note that there’s no re-entry. If you leave George Street at any time you won’t be able to re-enter without a new ticket.

As soon as we find out, we’ll be updating this article. Historically, the George Street Festival has been slow to announce line-ups and put tickets on sale so we wouldn’t expect much info before June.

How much is it to get on the street? Is it hard to get in if you just go down there?
It’s $20 to get onto the street after 11pm and that will get you cover at all the bars: https://georgestreetlive.ca/mikes-after-party-2023/ You can buy your ticket online in advance or buy it at the gate when you arrive, they won’t be sold out.
