There’s no denying that this is going to be a weird year for Atlantic Canadian tourism. International travel is out. Even inter-provincial travel is discouraged, or in some cases, banned. We’re all being encouraged to consider a vacation within your own province this summer, once it’s deemed safe to do so.
Each of the four Atlantic provinces have a lot to offer and maybe you haven’t taken the time to properly explore your own backyard before. We’re predicting that camping and cabins/cottage rentals will be especially popular this summer as a lot of us are discovering (or re-discovering) a love of nature and simple amusements like hiking and campfires.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind this summer before and during your home province staycation that will make for some fun, and safe, memories.
5 Things to Do Before Your Trip
- Review the updated safety precautions and guidelines. Although not required, it is recommended to wear a face mask/covering around others, social distance at least 6 feet apart, and wash hands frequently while avoiding touching your face
- Pack your own PPE
- Non-medical face masks
- Hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol)
- Antibacterial wipes
- Plan your road trip to limit stops and contact with those outside your bubble
- Plan out the activities you’d like to do on your visit while maintaining social distancing and safety guidelines
- Choose wide open spaces like parks, beaches, and hiking trails where you can stay in your bubble
- Research local restaurants offering takeout for your meals
- Review each province’s guidelines for which business can operate and under what restrictions
